Horseback Riding Lessons
Equine LEAD offers both Western and English riding lessons for children and adults. We believe that mastering core riding and horsemanship skills creates a strong foundation, enabling riders to pursue any discipline with confidence. We provide well-trained lesson horses, or you can bring your own horse if it is boarded at our facility or hauled in. Lessons are available Monday through Friday, year-round, in our indoor arena.
Our teaching approach is tailored to each student's comfort level, allowing them to build confidence and progress at their own pace. We emphasize developing a balanced, centered seat by integrating techniques from centered riding, mind-body connection, breath work, mindfulness, and developing the ability to tune into the horses movement. This helps students connect with their horse and foster a strong partnership. Additionally, we incorporate essential horsemanship skills such as grooming, leading, lunging, obstacle courses, and horse care. Each lesson includes preparing the horse for work, mounted or unmounted instruction, and post-riding aftercare.
Helmets are mandatory for all riders under 18 and will be provided by Equine LEAD for the first month of lessons. After that, riders will need to purchase their own helmet if they wish to continue. For safety reasons, appropriate attire is also required, including boots with a 1-1.5" heel and light tread, as well as long pants such as jeans or riding breeches.
Age Limit: Our lesson program is open to riders starting at six years old. We ensure that the program is a good fit by considering the child’s excitement, ability to focus, and readiness to follow directions for the safety of both the rider and the horse.
Weight Limit: Our lesson horses are suitable for riders who weigh 235 pounds or less.

Payment Policy:
Cancellations and No-Show Policy of a Lesson Appointment
Please be respectful of our business and our horses and call Equine LEAD promptly if you are unable to show up for a scheduled lesson. If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled appointment, we require that you call at least 24 hours in advance. To cancel appointments, please call 618-843-8702 and leave your name, phone number and cancelled lesson time on our voicemail.
A cancellation is when a student is unable to attend their scheduled lesson for any reason. If you cancel with less than 24-hours notice, or inadvertently miss your lesson, you will be responsible for payment of the full amount of the lesson, and you may lose a standing lesson time slot. If you cancel with more than 24-hour notice, as a courtesy Equine LEAD will try to accommodate a reschedule within (1) one week. In these instances, Equine LEAD cannot guarantee there will be availability to reschedule within the week. In this event the lesson will be forfeited, and payment is still due.
A “no-show” is a student who misses an appointment without any advanced notification. In both the case of a cancellation or a no-show, you will be responsible for payment of the full amount of the lesson. Payment will be due at the time of scheduling your next lesson. If your next lesson is not scheduled or confirmed within 48 hours of a missed lesson you may lose your lesson time slot, and be moved to the wait list.
For lessons that are cancelled from Equine LEAD’s side due to bad weather, sickness, or other unforeseen events, we will work with you to re-schedule within (1) one week.
Late Arrival
If you arrive late for a riding lesson, you will be allowed to continue the lesson, but will only ride for the remaining time left in the lesson for which you were scheduled. We often have lessons scheduled back-to-back and cannot extend your assigned lesson time. Late arrivals will not be able to make up missed riding or instruction time.
Policies are subject to change at any time with no prior notice.
- Payment is due at the time of scheduling your lesson.
- Payments are accepted via cash, check, Venmo, or Credit Card (4% fee applies)
- Continuity of lessons must be paid and scheduled within 48 hours after the previous lesson in order to secure your lesson time.
- Consecutive lesson packages must be paid the week prior to a new package beginning to hold your lesson time.
