Horseback Riding Lessons
Equine LEAD offers western and English riding lessons for children and adults. We provide quality lesson horses, or you can sign up for lessons with your own horse if boarded at the facility, or haul in. We offer lessons Monday-Friday, year round in our indoor arena.
The instruction approach is based on the students' comfort level, to build confidence and allow students to learn at their own pace. We focus on creating a balanced, centered seat by incorporating aspects of centered riding, balance exercises, breath work, mindfulness, and feel of the horse to learn how to be connected to the horse and build a partnership as horse and rider. We also include groundwork skills such as leading, longeing, and obstacle courses; as well as basic horse care, grooming, and other skills related to riding and horsemanship. Each lesson includes preparing the horse for work, mounted or unmounted instruction, and aftercare of the horse.
Horseback riding helmets are required for those under 18 years old and will be supplied by Equine LEAD for the first month of lessons. If you choose to continue with lessons, you will be required to purchase your own helmet. Appropriate attire is also required for safety purposes, which includes boots with 1-1.5" heel and light tread, and long pants such as jeans or riding breeches.
Age limit: Six years old is the youngest we offer lessons to. We want to be sure that our program is a good fit for everyone and that the child is excited, able to focus, and receive direction for the safety of both horse and rider.
Weight limit: our lesson horses can accommodate riders 235 pounds and under.

Equine LEAD reserves the right to adjust prices at any time. Any lessons or packages paid in advance will be honored at that rate until they are used. Packages and lessons can be paid for in one or two month periods. Consecutive packages must be paid the week prior to a new package beginning to hold your lesson time. Please read the Late Cancellation and No Show Policy below.
Late Cancellations and No Show Policy of a Lesson Appointment
Please be respectful of our business and our horses and call Equine LEAD promptly if you are unable to show up for a scheduled ride. If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled appointment, we require that you call at least 24 hours in advance. To cancel appointments, please call 618-843-8702 and leave your name, phone number and cancelled ride time on our voicemail.
A late cancellation is when a student fails to cancel their scheduled appointment with 24-hour advance notice. If you cancel with less than 24-hours notice, or inadvertently miss your lesson, you will be responsible for payment of the full amount of the lesson, and you may lose a standing lesson time slot. If you cancel with more than 24-hours notice, please arrange to reschedule your missed lesson within (1) one week.
A “no-show” is a student who misses an appointment without any advanced notification. In both the case of a late cancellation or a “no-show,’” you will be responsible for payment of the full amount of the lesson, and may lose a standing lesson time slot. Payment will be due before or at the time of your next scheduled lesson.
For lessons that are cancelled from Equine LEAD’s side due to bad weather, sickness, or other unforeseen events, we will work with you to re-schedule within (1) one week.
Late Arrival
If you arrive late for a riding lesson, you will be allowed to continue the lesson, but will only ride for the remaining time left in the lesson for which you were scheduled. We often have lessons scheduled back to back and cannot extend your assigned lesson time. Late arrivals will not be able to make up missed riding or instruction time.
